What "HOWO 371" means
HOWO is the main heavy-truck brand of Sinotruk (China National Heavy Duty Truck Group), which is based in Jinan, Shandong. The number 371 is the engine's horsepower. In the trucks we quote, it usually means the WD615.47 diesel engine: a 9.726-litre inline six-cylinder that produces 371 hp.
A typical HOWO 371 6×4 has these parts:
- Gearbox: HW19710, a 10-speed manual Sinotruk transmission.
- Front axle: HF9 (9-tonne class).
- Rear axles: AC16 (16-tonne rated) with a 5.262 final-drive ratio on our dump reference, or HC16 with a 4.8 ratio on our tractor reference.
- Tyres: 12R22.5.
- Emission standard: Euro II on our export reference sheets.
The WD615 engine family has been in use for decades. Mechanics in East Africa, West Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East know it well, and parts are easy to find in most markets. That is a big reason the HOWO 371 is still one of the most requested Chinese trucks for export.
Price by condition: refurbished, rebuilt or new
The biggest factor in the price is condition. "Used" can mean very different things, so we quote three clear levels.
Standard refurbished (USD 16,000–20,000)
The truck is inspected, serviced, repaired where agreed, and repainted. Fluids, filters and worn wear parts are replaced as agreed. Major parts such as the engine, gearbox and axles are tested but are not opened unless a fault is found. Ask the seller which major parts stay unopened. This level suits buyers who want a working truck at the lowest price and have a good local mechanic.
Full rebuild (USD 20,000–24,000)
The engine, gearbox and axles are overhauled to an agreed scope, and the parts to be replaced are listed before work starts. The truck is then tested again. This level costs about USD 4,000 more. It suits buyers who will run the truck hard from day one, such as on quarry or mining work, or who are far from a good workshop.
Brand new (USD 29,000–36,000)
A new truck is built to your configuration: steering side, emission standard, body, tyres and options. These are confirmed on the proforma invoice. A new dump truck costs about USD 3,000 more than a new tractor head because it includes the tipper body and hydraulic lifting system.
What moves the price within each range
Two trucks at the same condition level can still be several thousand dollars apart. These are the main reasons:
- Year and use. Newer trucks with fewer kilometres cost more. Always ask for the build year and odometer reading of the exact truck, not a "typical" one.
- Exact engine and gearbox version. Check the engine plate. Engines with a similar name can have different power ratings and emission levels.
- Axles and ratio. A 5.262 ratio pulls harder on hills and bad roads. A 4.8 ratio gives a higher road speed. Choose for your work, not for the price alone.
- Body specification (dump trucks). Our 6×4 reference body is 5,600 × 2,300 × 1,600 mm, with an 8 mm floor, 6 mm sides and a JIAHENG 179 hoist. Thicker steel or a bigger body costs more.
- Tyres. New tyres on all wheels add real value compared with part-worn tyres.
- Steering side. Our references are mostly left-hand drive. If your country needs right-hand drive, ask early. It changes which trucks are available.
- Cab version. A classic HOWO cab and the newer HOWO NX cab are priced differently.
- Quantity. Fleet orders are quoted individually.
EXW price vs. the price you really pay
"EXW Jining" means the price covers the truck at our yard in Jiaxiang, Jining. Your total landed cost also includes these costs:
- Transport from Jining to the export port and export customs clearance
- Port handling at the export port
- Sea freight (RoRo or flat rack) and marine insurance
- Destination port charges and your clearing agent's fees
- Import duty, VAT and any vehicle levies in your country
- Inland transport, registration and inspection at home
The freight and import costs can be a large part of the total, especially for landlocked destinations. Use our delivery cost worksheet to add up each cost. Then ask for a quote that lists each one separately. Our guide How to Import a Truck from China explains each step.
How to compare HOWO 371 quotes fairly
The cheapest quote is not always the best value. Before you compare prices, make sure each quote states the same things:
- The same condition level, with the work listed in writing
- The same specification: engine, gearbox, axles, body, tyres and steering
- The same delivery basis (EXW, FOB or CFR) and the named port
- The VIN, engine number, year and odometer of the actual truck
- Recent, dated photos and a cold-start video of that truck
- A seller whose registered company name matches the bank account on the invoice
A price far below the market often means a hidden problem. It could be an older truck than described, unopened major parts, missing tyres, or a seller who is not a real company. Our used truck inspection checklist shows what to check before you pay.
Dump truck or tractor head?
Choose the HOWO 371 6×4 dump truck for construction, road building, quarries and short-distance haulage of sand, gravel, stone or soil. Choose the HOWO 371 6×4 tractor head if you pull semi-trailers over longer distances, such as containers, flatbeds, fuel tankers or cargo trailers. If you need a larger tipper body, compare the 6×4 with an 8×4. Our guide 6×4 vs 8×4 dump truck explains the difference. If you are deciding between brands, read HOWO vs SHACMAN.
Frequently asked questions
Does the HOWO 371 price include shipping?
No. Published prices are EXW Jining. Freight, insurance and destination costs are quoted separately for your port and route.
Can I get a right-hand-drive HOWO 371?
Tell us your steering requirement in your enquiry. Most references are left-hand drive. We confirm available right-hand-drive trucks, or a new-build option, in the quotation.
Why is a new dump truck more expensive than a new tractor head?
A dump truck includes the tipper body, the hydraulic hoist and the power take-off. A tractor head has a fifth wheel instead.
Do you have prices for other models?
Prices for SHACMAN, Sitrak, 8×4, mixer, tanker and trailer models are quoted for the exact vehicle. Browse the truck catalogue and request a quote.
